Yury Urnov
Director
Yury Urnov (he/him) is an award-winning American theater director and producer. In 2024, Yury received the highest US theater award as a co-artistic director of the Wilma theater in Philadelphia (Best Regional Theater Tony Award), where he currently serves as director-in-residence.
Yury was born and studied theater in Russia and moved to the US in 2009. Woolly Mammoth Theater of DC was Yury’s first artistic home in America, where he directed several pieces, including Kiss and Marie Antoinette. The performance of My Mama And The Full-Scale Invasion he directed was named the best theater production in Washington DC of 2024 (Helen Hayes Award).
In 2009-2011, he was a Fulbright Scholar in Residence at Towson University, MD where he still teaches.
Yury also serves as an associate director of the Center of International Theater Development – a leading organization for international theater exchange in the US.
