Derrick Ju’Wan Ford

Philly native Derrick Ju’Wan Ford (he/him) is a singer, songwriter, playwright, and black enthusiast. He attended West Chester University where he received B.A degrees in both Theatre and Marketing. Following college, Ju’Wan has worked with various theater companies across the Greater Philadelphia region, including the Walnut Street Theater and Media Theater for the Performing Arts, and spent time as a performer at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. A dedicated advocate for cultivating an artistic presence in urban communities, Ju’Wan has devoted his efforts to arts-Education, serving as a Teaching Artist with Philadelphia Arts and Education Partnerships where he taught Philadelphia public school students in grades 4-8 and as a non profit administrator where he was responsible for creating programs using theater as a vehicle to create literacy rich environments and positively impact the social emotional development of Philadelphia students grades K-12. Currently, Ju’Wan is enrolled at Point Park University where he is studying to attain a Masters of Fine Arts in Writing for the Screen and Stage. When not acting on stage, Ju’Wan can be found performing his original music. As a recording artist he has performed in cities across the United States including Atlanta, Boston, and New York. Ju’Wan is also in the beginning stages of starting his theatre company, the Black and Brown Theatre Company of Philadelphia, who’s mission is to promote the advancement of Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) theatre.
